“Selfie”

“Selfie”

It all started when…

Paquette accepted an invitation to paint anything she wanted for the massive common room at art@BRiX. She decided to paint fellow artist and friend, Amber Dawn Bellemare, nude, taking a selfie as an homage to Bellemare’s work.

In Paquette’s own words:

“Selfie” is a unique, one of a kind design created with latex and acrylic paint that depicts the vulnerable nature of sexuality and self acceptance. The modern themes in this painting convey that, even in contemporary society, the commodification of the feminine form is still a very present quandary. Inspired by the installation piece The Parlour Project “Selfie” seeks to open the dialogue on social communion and how we choose to project our image to the public.

Here is the moment “Selfie” was revealed. There’s nothing more powerful than seeing love between two muses as they honour each other. Parlour opened a couple days later and embedded into the projections is another love note from Bellemare to Paquette.
